Adrian of Canterbury

According to Bede, he was a Berber native of North Africa, and abbot of a monastery near Naples, called Monasterium Niridanum (perhaps a mistake for Nisidanum, as being situated on the island of Nisida). He was twice offered the vacant archbishopric of Canterbury, by Pope Vitalian, but modestly declined the appointment. He first recommended that it should be given to Andrew, a monk belonging to a neighbouring monastery(monachum quemdam de vicino virginum monasterio), who also declined on the plea of advanced years. Then, when the offer was again made to Adrian, he introduced to the pontiff his friend Theodore of Tarsus, who then chanced to be at Rome, and who consented to undertake the charge. Vitalian, however, stipulated that Adrian should accompany the new archbishop to Britain. He gave as his reasons that Adrian, having twice before made a journey into Gaul, knew the road and the mode of travelling.
The two set out from Rome on 27 May 668, and proceeding by sea to Marseille, crossed the country to Arles, where they remained with John, the archbishop, till they got passports from Ebroin, who ruled that part of Gaul as Mayor of the Palace, for the minor king Clotaire III. Having then made their way together to the north of France, they parted company, and went severally to reside for the winter, Theodore with Agelberctus, bishop of Paris, Adrian first with Emmon, bishop of Sens, and afterwards with Farobishop of Meaux. Theodore, being sent for in the following spring by King Ecgberht of Kent, was allowed to take his departure, and he reached England at the end of May 669; but Adrian was detained by order of Ebroin, who is said to have suspected him of being an emissary of the Greek emperor sent to stir up troubles against the kingdom of the Franks. At length, however, the tyrant became convinced that there was no ground for this notion, and Adrian was permitted to proceed to England, where, immediately on his arrival, he was made abbot of the monastery of St. Peter (afterwards called St. Augustine's Abbey) at Canterbury, an appointment which was in conformity with instructions given by the pope to Theodore. Such is the account given in the Ecclesiastical History (iv. 1.). Adrian was known to be a man learned in the Bible, as well as in Greek and Latin, and an excellent administrator. Under his direction the abbey came to have substantial, far-reaching influence.

Las Vegas Consumer Electronics Show (CES) 2019

Las Vegas Consumer Electronics Show (CES) 2019

CES, which stands for Consumer Electronics Show, takes place from January 8-11, 2019, and is projected to attract more than 175,000 attendees from 150 countries. At CES, the future of technology comes to life, and drives the evolution of global technology. At the 2018 CES, there were 180,000+ industry professionals that showcased almost 4,600 exhibiting companies. Last year’s audiences were introduced to new categories like smart cities and sports tech and design.
The gargantuan trade show—North America’s largest—follows its 2018 edition, spreading three show floors throughout eleven venues.

Since CES’s attendees could populate a small city, expect high prices, headaches, and crowds. Hotels will be at high capacity. Flights will be fully booked. Restaurants will be reserved. Traffic will be insane. If you go, plan early. Anticipate stratospheric hotels rates, airfares, and club covers. Nightclubs and strip clubs capitalize on the weekend’s added number of Vegas visitors. Nightclubs lineup renowned DJs to attract more people to there venue. Increased demand means clubs can charge more for VIP tables, and people will pay the price.

Britney spears Returns

BRITNEY SPEARS RETURNS
Britney Spears (Photo: Denise Truscello)That didn’t take long. After wrapping up her Planet Hollywood “Piece of Me” residency at the end of 2017, Britney Spears is back — and working for the competition at the Park MGM’s Park Theater. The new show, aggressively titled “Britney: Domination,” runs for select dates between February and August of 2019 (with more dates to possibly come if it does well, which it will). So far, few details have been released, but expect the show to be a tech-heavy visual spectacle to complement what everyone knows will primarily be a lipsyncing dance exhibition. MGM Resorts calls Spears the “first major pop star to have a Las Vegas residency,” which may be a stretch, but there’s no doubt she opened the door for a new wave of contemporary artists — Jennifer Lopez, Lady Gaga, Pitbull, etc. — to cash in with regular gigs in Sin City.

KIND HEAVEN
Described as a “journey of transformation,” Kind Heaven will open at The LINQ promenade in November 2019. Guests take a virtual train ride to an immersive environment of sights, sounds, scents, and tastes inspired by the culture of Southeast Asia. Put your cash aside. Wristbands with Yala Coin cryptocurrency will be used to pay for goods and services, including street food inspired by Singapore, Thailand and Hong Kong. At The Dispensary, cocktails crafted with spirits and herbs are designed to match the feelings and emotions of customers. The second floor, dubbed The Forest, is a lush environment of trees and temples. The third level is The Sanctuary, inspired by the beauty and spirituality of Nepal and Bhutan. An intimate concert hall will feature rock, hip-hop, reggae, jazz, pop, EDM and rap by Asian performers. The 100,000-square-foot multistory attraction takes full advantage of Hollywood-style film and holographic special effects. The $100 million project is the brainchild of Jane’s Addiction frontman and Lollapalooza founder Perry Farrell.

What's New in las vegas in 2019

WHAT'S NEW IN LAS VEGAS 2019
In a city that is constantly reinventing itself, it’s hard to keep up with the ever-changing excitement that is Las Vegas! World-renowned food, entertainment, and nightlife make this sparkling jewel of the desert an international vacation destination. We’ll keep you up to date with all of the latest things you will be able to do in Las Vegas through 2019.

WYNN GOLF CLUB GETS A SECOND CHANCE

The Wynn is scaling back on its plans for Paradise Park. Originally, the project was going to feature a new hotel tower, convention center and numerous other attractions with a 38-acre lagoon at the center of it all. Those plans have now been scaled back. The lagoon is nixed and the golf course that closed to make room for it will now reopen. The designer of the course, Tom Fazio, is being brought in to help renovate the holes disrupted by the construction. It will be back in action before the convention center opens in 12 to 18 months.

EATLY

The Las Vegas edition of Eataly will open at the Park MGM on December 27. The restaurant-retail hybrid dedicated to the art of Italian cuisine will span 40,000 square feet and have a main entrance directly on the Strip. Expect a few in-house restaurant concepts, live cooking demonstrations and al fresco patio seating that’s perfect for people watching. Executive Chef Nicole Brisson, formerly of Carnevino, is in charge — a strong sign that authenticity, ingredients and preparation will be taken seriously.
